The Albanian government has approved an amendment to the 2025 budget through a normative act, allocating $10 million to participate as a co-financier in Mira Murati's new startup, "Thinking Machines Lab", which operates in the field of artificial intelligence.
The decision was made 10 days before the elections, and for this purpose the Ministry of Finance has addressed the Central Election Commission to obtain an opinion in accordance with the Electoral Code, which prohibits the adoption of decisions with financial impact during the last four months before voting day. This period began on January 11 and ends on May 11.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, the project led by Murat is considered one of the most innovative globally in the field of technology, with an expected positive impact on Albania's economy, image and international positioning in the field of artificial intelligence.
Funds for this financing will be provided from the revenues of the Sequestered and Confiscated Assets Administration Agency.
Prime Minister Edi Rama first announced this commitment on April 15, during a visit to a company, where he emphasized that it is time for the state to participate in important innovative projects, to contribute to development and to benefit from their successes.
