Visa, a global leader in digital payments, has launched the Agentic Ready program in the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) region, enabling financial institutions to test for the first time how payments initiated by artificial intelligence agents work on behalf of users. The program represents an important step towards developing a new generation of digital commerce, while maintaining the security, trust and control that are the foundation of the Visa network.
In its first phase, the program focuses on card issuing banks and enables them to test, verify and better understand how transactions performed by AI agents on behalf of users work, in conditions that simulate a real market environment. In this way, financial institutions can assess their readiness to support new AI-based commerce models, while maintaining the security and user protection standards for which Visa is known.
For example, instead of searching through a large number of sites and offers themselves, a user could in the future ask an AI assistant to find the cheapest plane ticket or book accommodation within a certain budget. The agent could then carry out the search, selection and payment according to previously defined rules and under the full control of the user.
Such scenarios are no longer just a concept of the future. According to Visa research, up to 83% of consumers in the region already use artificial intelligence to support their purchases, indicating the increasingly important role of AI tools in product research, comparison shopping and purchasing decisions.

The Visa Agentic Ready program gives our customers a practical way to understand, test and prepare payments initiated by AI agents, backed by the security mechanisms, controls and network capabilities that have been the foundation of Visa’s trusted network for decades,” said Godfrey Sullivan, Senior Vice President and Head of Products and Solutions at Visa for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa.
