Kumbaro announces the extension of the hunting moratorium to the next five years
The hunting moratorium will continue for another five years. The decision was announced by the Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro after the government meeting, noting that there have been significant results from the ban on hunting in previous years.

"There were two laws before for 2014-2016 and another law to announce a hunting moratorium in 2016-2021, which expired last year. We note all the positive effects of these two measures taken in the first and second term in relation to wildlife especially for wild birds. "In the census conducted since 2016, a significant increase in the species of wild birds and wild fauna has been ascertained, as well as an awareness of the population thanks to an increased communication from environmentalists and various associations of fauna and environment", she said .

Mirela Kumbaro said that in 2016 in the developed census were found about 60 thousand wild birds in the habitats of the Albanian ecosystem, while in 2021 there were about 140 thousand such individuals. This census is conducted every year in the same period by the National Agency of Protected Areas.

"On the other hand, the announcement of this moratorium has a significant effect, it significantly limits the distribution or the requirement to obtain a hunting weapon permit. In the first two years, thanks to this moratorium, over 800 hunting weapons were seized in 2015-2016. "We have a total ban on hunting activity by foreign hunters, who at a time when there was no moratorium often came to hunt, but also use illegal means of hunting", said the Minister of Tourism and Environment Kumbaro, adding that in the extension of the hunting moratorium the interest for the conservation of the fauna, the preservation of the environment and the preservation of the protected areas prevails.
