Government Decision on the Guard: Renovation of weapons in case of protests

The Republic Guard will be equipped with new types of weapons, which will serve to manage crowds in case of protests. This is the decision taken by the government, published in the Official Gazette. The decision mentions restrictive devices and equipment as well as neuroparalyzing substances otherwise known as chemicals to disperse crowds. The decision comes in the wake of the new government, where the SP leads with another term for the next 4 years. The decision was signed today by the Council of Ministers.

Pursuant to Article 100 of the Constitution and point 2, Article 62, of Law no. 33/2021, "On the Guard of the Republic of Albania", on the proposal of the Minister of Interior, the Council of Ministers
V E N D O S I:
1. Approval of the types of weapons, neuroparalyzing substances (chemical substances for crowd control), tools and other restraining devices, for the use of force by the Guard of the Republic of Albania, according to the text of attachment no. is attached to this decision and is an integral part of it.
2. Until the complete renewal of the armament, the structures of the Guard of the Republic of Albania use the current armament and equipment.
3. Decision no. 830, dated 1.12.2003, of the Council of Ministers, "On equipping the employees of the Guard of the Republic of Albania with special weapons and technical means", as amended, is abrogated.
4. The Ministry of Interior and the Guard of the Republic of Albania are in charge of the implementation of this decision.
This decision enters into force after its publication in the "Official Gazette".
