In Italy, anyone who checks their partner's WhatsApp or phone is sentenced

No excuse is enough. Spying on WhatsApp messages, whether out of curiosity, suspicion of infidelity, or during a divorce, is prohibited by law.

According to a final ruling by the Court of Cassation in Italy, anyone who accesses their partner's mobile phone or accounts without permission commits a crime: "unauthorized access to an information system." The penalty can reach up to 10 years in prison.

The specific case concerned a man who, during the separation process, had extracted messages from his ex-wife's mobile phone without her consent. Following the decision of the Messina Court of Appeal, the man appealed to the Court of Cassation, but was also rejected there. The decision is now final.

Be careful: even if you feel betrayed, the law does not allow you to access someone else's phone without permission. The act is considered a serious offense and can lead to serious criminal consequences.
