A rare condition called hematohidrosis can cause people to sweat blood

Hematohidrosis is a medical condition in which blood leaks through seemingly intact skin. Affected individuals appear to be sweating blood without any visible cuts or wounds. It usually appears on the face, forehead, or around the eyes and is often triggered by severe psychological stress, extreme fear, or extreme physical fatigue.

Scientists believe this happens when tiny capillaries around sweat glands burst due to high pressure. As a result, blood mixes with sweat and comes out onto the skin's surface through the pores.

Although the appearance of “bloody sweat” is alarming, this condition usually goes away on its own and is not directly life-threatening. Since the symptoms are closely related to the body’s response to stress or trauma, treatment focuses primarily on reducing the patient’s stress. Psychological counseling and lifestyle changes are usually recommended to reduce anxiety. In some cases, doctors may also recommend beta-blockers to control the physical response to adrenaline and prevent its recurrence.
