Macron appoints Sébastien Lecornu as France's new prime minister

French President Emmanuel Macron has chosen Sébastien Lecornu as France's new prime minister, following the ouster of François Bayrou by Parliament on Monday.

Lecornu, 39 and currently Minister of Defense, is one of Macron's closest and most loyal aides. Although he is considered a young politician, he has considerable experience in the administration and on the French political scene.

His selection comes at a delicate moment for the government, as Macron tries to regain stability after the political turmoil of recent weeks. Lecornu replaces François Bayrou, who lost parliamentary support after a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly.

Lecornu's appointment is expected to bring a new spirit to the head of the executive, with a particular focus on national security and international crisis management, areas where he has had great commitment as a minister.
