Trump: World Cup tickets are expensive. I wouldn't buy them at that price

US President Donald Trump has reacted with criticism to the high ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying that even he himself would not pay $1,000 to watch the US national team's debut against Paraguay from the stadium.

"I didn't know the price had gone up that much. Of course I would have liked to have been there, but to be honest, I wouldn't have paid that much either," Trump said during a telephone interview with the New York Post.

The United States will begin their World Cup campaign on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where they will face Paraguay. According to reports, tickets for the match start at around $1,000.

Trump said he had not yet been briefed on the details of the prices, but warned that the issue needed to be looked at carefully. He expressed concern that many working-class Americans, who make up a significant portion of his supporters, could be left out of the World Cup atmosphere because of the high costs.

"I wish the people who voted for me had the opportunity to be there," the American president said.

However, Trump stressed that despite the controversy over the awards, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is being seen as "a tremendous success" and has generated great interest around the world.
