Trump harsh on Vatican: Without me, Leone would not be Pope

Donald Trump's latest target is Pope Leo. The US president told reporters he is "not a big fan" of Pope Leo XIV, following the latter's call for peace.

"I'm not a big fan of Pope Leo. He's a very liberal person and a man who doesn't believe in fighting crime," he said in Maryland. He then accused the Pope of "playing with a country that's looking for nuclear weapons."

But the president's attack continued on his social network Truth.

"I don't want a Pope who thinks it's right for Iran to have nuclear weapons. Pope Leone is weak on crime and bad at foreign policy," he wrote.

Trump went further, saying that the Pope should be grateful, as according to him his selection was a "shocking surprise" and he was not on the list of candidates. He even claimed that he was chosen because he was American and as a way to deal with him.

"If I weren't in the White House, Leone wouldn't be in the Vatican," he added.

He also compared the Pope to his brother Louis, whom he said he likes more, as he is a strong MAGA supporter.

"Louis has it all figured out, while Leone doesn't," Trump said.

In the end, the president stressed that he does not want a Pope who criticizes the US for its actions, adding that he is doing exactly what he was elected to do: reducing crime and strengthening the economy.
