Argentina risks severe punishment from FIFA after the brawl that broke out immediately after their 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

Leandro Paredes was sent off after kicking and grabbing defender Eric García by the throat, while also pushing Gavin. Meanwhile, Nahuel Molina kicked Rodri, sparking tensions between players from both teams.

FIFA is expected to open disciplinary proceedings, with Paredes facing a long-term ban. The Argentine players' behaviour was also heavily criticised by former England players Alan Shearer, Joe Hart and Gary Neville, who called their reaction "shameful" and "disgusting".

According to them, the only one who remained calm after the final whistle was Lionel Messi, who greeted the Spain players one by one.
