Mayor Erion Veliaj, in the presentation of the green fleet of electric buses said that the objective of the Municipality of Tirana is that in 2030, 100% of the bus fleet to be electric.
In addition to urban transport, said Veliaj, today we have over 15 electric taxi companies in Tirana, which make up 50% of the total fleet of taxis circulating in the capital. This means that electric taxis are more economical for citizens, as they use government-subsidized electricity, which makes travel cheaper than normal taxis.
"Our plan is to have a 100% electric fleet of buses by 2030. We are doing the same with the tools used by the institutions of the Municipality of Tirana. We started with the State Police, I am sure that the government will also invest so that every future purchase of vehicles will be electric vehicles. Today Tirana is one of the capitals with the most electric taxis in the region. The entire fleet of Municipal Police vehicles is electric. If we continue with this growth and the positive response of the market, with the reduction of VAT for electric vehicles and immediate access to taxi transport, I believe that the day will not be far away when Tirana is really the city where travel only by transport electric ", underlined Veliaj.
