The women's team of Sport Klub Tirana won the Albanian Cup in volleyball, bringing this trophy to the capital after 9 years of waiting. The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, congratulated the girls who brought the 11th trophy for SK Tirana and underlined that investments in sports bring results.
"I am very proud of all of you! The fact that you are a team, where you work in groups, where each feels satisfaction for the success of the other, and especially now that you were declared the winner of the Albanian Cup after 9 years, gives me an extraordinary pleasure. This proves that our philosophy of opening the game has worked - just as in a game where following and diving can not be done by one man - so in a team a new generation must come, the game must be opened for young talented "People should not be seen from their pockets, surnames or parties, but the race should really be represented by the best of our white and blue uniform", said Veliaj.
The mayor highlighted the fact that investments are what produce results. He stressed that support for teams competing with the colors of Tirana will continue.
"The fact that investments, both in sports fields and in a training group, bring this result, is an encouragement for us to continue like this. We will continue the investments with the Swimming Federation, but mainly the main beneficiary will be the Tirana team. We have just issued the order to vacate the pool facilities. What we learned from volleyball, from basketball, from Briken in weightlifting, from Luiza and Izmir in athletics, is that where meritorious talents are promoted and where a basic infrastructure is created, there is always a result. "Where we say, not if the generation that has a Federation for 20 years keeps it, things do not work there", declared Veliaj.
Even in football, he said, we need to ensure an equal start and path to success for all talents.
