Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will resign within a few weeks, after more than a year and a half of continuous protests against his government.

At a rally of supporters in Belgrade, Vučić declared that he would step down as president and that the country would go to early presidential and parliamentary elections.

Protests in Serbia began after the tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station, where 16 people lost their lives, while the opposition, students and civic organizations have considered the event as a symbol of corruption and mismanagement of state institutions.

Vučić's announcement marks a significant development in the Serbian political scene and is expected to significantly influence the political climate in the country in the coming months. Attention is now focused on the upcoming elections and how the political transition in Serbia will unfold.
