Shënkoll Prison in Lezha will be turned into an institution for the treatment of prisoners with mental health problems.

The statement was made by Justice Minister Toni Gogu, who emphasized that the government has a concrete plan that it is implementing, and the treatment of convicts will be similar to EU countries.

"One of the challenges we will face and report on in the future will be the situation of convicts, who have a court decision and suffer from mental health, so they are mentally incapacitated, and although they are convicted they should be treated as physically incapable. I am talking about Shenkolli, which is currently a prison, but we are working, and we have a plan that we are implementing, and it will be a mental health institution, convicts will be treated there, just as they are treated in every EU country," said Gogu.
