The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday a package of draft decisions with an impact on the social field, aimed at increasing support for people with disabilities, their families and personal assistants.
The package foresees the doubling of payments for 10,240 children with disabilities, with an additional financial impact of 750 million lek in the State Budget. The measure will enter into force with financial effects from July 1, 2026.
According to the government, the additional financial support aims to improve the quality of life of children with disabilities, easing the economic burden on families and promoting early intervention, skills development and social inclusion.
Another important change is the removal of the obligation to submit medical documentation to the assessment committees every year in cases where the benefit period is several years. According to the government, this measure will reduce administrative procedures and costs for beneficiaries.
The package also provides for the recognition of contributory periods for 14,657 personal assistants of people with disabilities, with an additional financial impact of 674 million lek in the State Budget. This measure will be implemented from September 1, 2026.
With this decision, the period of service of personal assistants will be recognized as a contributory period for social and health insurance, while aiming to strengthen family care and reduce the need for institutionalization.
The approved package also includes changes to the decisions of the Council of Ministers that regulate payments for people with disabilities, benefits from blind status, disability assessment procedures, as well as special protection for unemployed women with three or more children up to 18 years old.
