US President Donald Trump reportedly wants FIFA president Gianni Infantino to be the next UN Secretary-General.

According to The New York Post, citing a source close to Trump, he considers Infantino a respected candidate to succeed António Guterres, whose second term ends on December 31, 2026.

Trump and Infantino have built a close relationship over the past few years, which became even more apparent after Trump's return to the White House and during the 2026 World Cup.

Their friendship came under fire when FIFA lifted the suspension of American striker Folarin Balogun after a phone call from Trump to Infantino. The decision sparked strong reactions in the football world.

The new UN Secretary-General will be elected with the approval of the 15 members of the Security Council.
