EU fines Temu 200 million euros for selling illegal products

The European Union has imposed a fine of 200 million euros on the Chinese online shopping platform Temu, after dangerous and illegal products were found on the platform for consumers.

According to the European Commission, investigations revealed that Temu had allowed the sale of unsafe children's toys and electric chargers that failed basic safety tests.

European authorities accuse the company of failing to properly identify and analyze the risks these products pose to consumers.

The investigation into Temu began in October 2024, under new EU rules for large online platforms.

In addition to the fine, Temu must submit by August 28 a concrete plan of measures to correct the problems and improve control of products sold on the platform.

On the other hand, the company has stated that it disagrees with the decision and considers the fine disproportionate.
