Begaj addresses the Constitutional Court: Lift the suspension of the decree,

The Presidency has addressed the Constitutional Court of Albania with an official request to lift the suspension of the presidential decree related to the elections for the mayor of Tirana. The submitted document states that the suspension decision has blocked the electoral process and that the court should pave the way for the voting to take place.

The Presidency also requests that the Constitutional Court set a new date for early elections in the capital, no earlier than 30 days after the decision enters into force. At the same time, it requests that the Central Election Commission be authorized to begin preparations for this process.

Another point of the request is the rejection of the complaint of the current mayor Erion Veliaj, who claims that the setting of the date by the President conflicts with Article 115 of the Constitution. The Presidency considers this claim unfounded.

The Albanian Council of Ministers will also present its position to the Constitutional Court, in support of the decision to dismiss Veliaj. The process of reviewing the two appeals is scheduled to begin at the end of October, likely in the presence of Veliaj himself in the courtroom.
