5 signs that your child is highly gifted, according to neuroscientists

I manage student applications at the Davidson Institute, where we've helped thousands of highly gifted kids (or kids who score in the 99.9th percentile on IQ tests) reach their highest potential. Most gifted children can learn and process information faster than children their age.
But they are not always polite and high-achieving students. In fact, neuroscience experts say that talent looks different in every child.
Unexpected signs that your child is very talented
1. Asynchronous development
Does your smart child struggle with simple tasks like tying shoelaces or remembering to brush their teeth?
These are just a few examples of asynchronous development - or developing faster in some areas than others. It is common for gifted children.
A gifted 8-year-old can display the reading skills of a 7th grader and the math ability of a 5th grader, and be deficient in some very easy things.
2. Emotional sensitivity at a young age
Neuroscientists suggest that gifted children experience more intense emotional responses to the world around them.
For example, they may find it difficult to enjoy shows where a character is hurt or sad.
3. The existential question
